CHANDIGARH, OCT 19: The Cycling Federation of India is shifting the national cylcing camp from Patiala to Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh. This is being done to give intensive training to the cyclists on up-and-down track as they will face the same conditions in Malaysia where they will take part in the International Cycling Championship being held at Perlis from November 12 to 16.
A spokesman of the Cycling Federation of India said the cyclists would train on the Mandi-Kullu up-and-down road.
Though the members of the teams have been selected, the other remaining probables in men, women and junior boys sections are also attending the camp. In the men’s section 14 cyclists were retained for the final camp. Nine women cyclists and 14 junior cyclists were also retained for the camp. The Indian cyclists leave for Malaysia on November 8.
The federation has also decided to approach the Sports Authority of India to request it to grant ex-post facto sanction to Varmeet Singh of Punjab, Vikram Pratap Singh(Punjab) and Jatinder Singh (SAI coach) who are attending the camp since September 13.
The CFI will also field a team in the International Cycling Championship to be held in Sri Lanka from December 8 to 10. Those who have not been selected for the Malaysian tour will continue to attend the camp. If they show promise, some of them may find a berth in the Indian team for the Sri Lanka competitions.
Ashwani Kumar of Sports Authority of India will accompany the team to Malaysia as the chief coach.
