GURDASPUR, June 16: A Punjab government’s bullet proof Ambassador car, allotted to Punjab Congress president Rajinder Kaur Bhattal today fatally wounded a cyclist near Naushahra Majha Singh when she was being driven to Gurdaspur to take part in the Congress dharna this afternoon. A police press release said that cyclist Kulwant Singh, 30, of Bidhipur, after being knocked down by the car, was brought to the civil hospital where he died.

Police said Constable Paramjit Singh, who was driving the car, had been arrested and the car impounded. Dhariwal police, in whose jurisdiction the mishap occurred, registered a case under section 304-a of IPC, the release added.

This was the second vehicle of Bhattal’s motorcade involved in an accident since June 1 when a Maruti Gypsy escort had hit a private car at Amritsar, wounding Kamal Virdi, wife of Punjab’s border range Inspector-General of Police J.P. Virdi.
