Mumbai, April 10: Mumbai Customs and Indian Navy will contest the final of the St Peter Youth Centre hockey tournament. In the semi-finals today, at St Stanislaus School, Navy rallied from a two-goal deficit to upset Tatas 3-2, while Customs had a surprisingly easy, if uninspiring, 2-0 win over Rizvi.
Robin Singh’s brace put Tatas 2-0 up, but James Burh and R Singh helped the Navy veterans draw level. With both teams tiring, and Navy appearing content to force extra time, Tatas slackened. A defensive lapse and a quick free hit conversion saw R Bara get past a mesmerised AP Girish.
In the second semi-final, the Rizvi offence had little to offer, save for Asad Khan’s attempted equaliser, nicely taken care of by custodian Anson Thomas. Rahul Singh scored both Customs goals, off strokes. They could have doubled the margin, had Suresh Pereira moved right, instead of swerving left, on an advancing Rizvi custodian. Rahul also had a flashy run, but his flying finish resulted only in a few broken windows in theneighbouring building.
