After 21 days of battling death with a head injury in the critical care unit of J J hospital, 42-year-old Nathuni Yadav succumbed to his injuries earlier this week. Yadav was shot in his head on November 26 outside the CST station when he was frantically searching for his 16-year-old daughter. He is survived by his wife and two children — Gudiya and Bilas. A migrant from Varanasi, Yadav came to the city with dreams of leading an improved life. Leaving his wife at hometown, he brought along his children for better education and to get his hearing impaired daughter operated upon. On November 26, Yadav was at the CST station to see off his brother Rambilas and Gudiya, who were headed home after a successful surgery. But Yadav, 42, was seriously injured in the firing by the terrorists who attacked the station. He was rushed to J J hospital in a critical state. “A bullet went through his head. He succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning,” said Dr Shashi Pawar, in-charge of disaster management at the hospital.Only two months back, after a surgery at the King Edward Memorial hospital, Gudiya had finally heard his father speak. When she went to meet him at the hospital she broke down saying, “Jab meri sunne ki baari aayi to Papa nahin bol rahe.” (Now that I can hear, Papa cannot talk).” With Yadav’s death, the death toll in the terrorist attacks has now risen to 174.
