LONDON, MAY 21: England fired out Zimbabwe for 123 in their second innings to wrap up a crushing victory by an innings and 209 runs on the fourth day of the first Test at Lord’s.

Zimbabwe, who needed 332 to make England bat again and were 39 for five overnight, lost their remaining wickets on Sunday in almost exactly two hours after rain prevented a start until 30 minutes after lunch.

Andy Caddick, who ended with four for 38, and Ed Giddins (2-27) finished the job started by Darren Gough with his four wickets on Saturday.

Only Guy Whittall (23) and Number 10 Bryan Strang, who smashed 37 not out off 37 balls, held up England’s march to success.

Zimbabwe, 92 for nine at one stage after scoring just 83 in their first innings, avoided the indignity of being the first Test side for 16 years to be dismissed for less than 100 in both innings thanks to Strang’s late assault.

The two teams meet in the second and last Test at Trent Bridge starting on June 1.
