A division bench of Bombay High Court in Nagpur on Wednesday pulled up the officials investigating the death of a minor girl, whose body was found in state BJP president Nitin Gadkari’s car,and expressed its displeasure.
The bench, comprising Justices A P Lavande and P B Varale, while hearing a criminal petition filed by Vimal and Ashok Thakre, parents of seven-year-old Yogita, whose was found dead in the car of Gadkari on May 19,observed that the investigators lacked the basic principles of investigation.
“Why the investigators did not record statement of the owner of the car on his first availability in city?” the court asked.
When you say the driver of the car locked the vehicle and kept the keys at the police guard room, how the girl landed in the car?” Justice Lavande, asked while fixing June 18 for next hearing.
“If the doors are locked and keys are kept in guard room,is someone using the second keys?” the court questioned the defence and left the public prosecutor,Nitin Sambhare, with no replies. “The investigating officers did not bother to record the availability of second keys,” the court added.
There was no proper investigation of the case, court observed saying,”we can tell you how to investigate.”
The parents of the victim have been demanding for a CBI probe.
