Jilted lover tries murder
The Katargam police, late on Tuesday afternoon, arrested a youth of Amroli area, who attempted to set a young girl on fire by pouring kerosene over her in a busy marketplace on Tuesday morning. Pravin Prajapati, a resident of room no 924, Krishnanagar Society, was arrested in the evening after Parul Bhatt, residing at room no 925, Krishnanagar Society, lodged a police complaint. The accused and the complainant are next door neighbours and are said to know each other closely, but the girl8217;s parents planned to get her married elsewhere. Parul was reportedly was walking down the road at 11 am when Pravin reached the spot and demanded to know why she was not marrying him. When she refused to speak, he poured kerosene over her and attempted to set her on fire, but she managed to flee. Prajapati has been booked for wrongful restraint and attempt to murder under sections 307 and 341 of the Indian Penal Code.
Burns death
Tara Arun Nayak 32, a resident of Modi Ved area of Katargam, died late on Monday night in the New Civil Hospital where she was being treated for burns since September 2. According to the dying declaration of the woman, she received serious burns when a burning oil lamp fell on her body while she was asleep. The Katargam police have registered a case under section 174 of the CrPC and are investigating further.
Wire stolen
Aluminium wires of the Gujarat Electricity Board worth Rs 10,000 were reported stolen from near Bagumara village in Palsana taluka of the district, a case registered in the police station said. According to a complaint lodged by officials in the Palsana police station, 800 metres of electric wire was stolen during the night by unidentified persons. No arrests have been made as yet.
