Knocked downOne Upendra Kashinath Naika (40), a resident of the city, died in the Maskati hospital of the city late on Monday night, after he was knocked down by a ST bus near the railway station on Monday evening. The Mahidharpura police have registered a case against driver Himmatsinh Parmar under sections of the IPC and MVA, and are investigating further. Naika was walking on the road when the accident occurred.Chain snatchingAn unidentified Hero Honda rider snatched a gold chain from the neck of a woman passing on the Anandnagar Road in Kapodara and fled, a case registered said. Manjula Trikam Gurji told the police that the rider rode close to her and snatched away the Rs 15,100 chain before riding away. Although she could not recollect the registration number of the vehicle, she stated that it was a Hero Honda and described the culprit to the police, who have registered a case under IPC 379.StabbedTwo unidentified persons armed with knives entered the house of an elderly person on Tuesday afternoon, and after stabbing him in the abdomen, escaped with his wrist watch and Rs 10 in cash. Dr Tony Nicholas, president of the Surat Branch of the Indian Medical Association told the Chowk Bazaar police that the two youth entered the house of his father Timothy Nicholas near I P Mission Girls School and demanded whatever valuables he had, threatening to kill him. The two stabbed him in the abdomen and lower chest before escaping.ArrestedThe Sachin police on Tuesday arrested two housebreakers involved in a housebreak in the area a couple of months ago. Bijli Rajanand Mishra and Ramkrishna Ramlalit Kahar, both residents of Umiyanagar, Dindoli, were arrested in a case (case no 96/99) of housebreak registered in the police station under sections 380 and 457.
