Customs inspector held for graftA customs inspector, posted at the Foreign Post Office, was arrested by the the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi Government for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.The arrest followed a complaint filed by a motor-parts dealer from Gole Market, Manjeet Singh, with the ACB. Singh told the ACB that customs inspector Harvinder Singh Bawa had demanded money for releasing a consignment of spare parts which had come to the Foreign Post Office, New Delhi. Initially, Bawa demanded Rs 10,000 from Singh, but settled for Rs 5,000. It was also decided that the money would be handed over near Singh's shop at Gol Market yesterday.The ACB team laid a trap, and as soon as the money exchanged hands they arrested Bawa. A case has been registered against Bawa and he was produced in a city court today.Taxi owner robbedA Govindpuri taxi owner Krishan Kumar was allegedly robbed off Rs 23,000 and his scooter by three youths in Kalkaji on Monday night. Kumar was returning home on a scooter with his day's earnings, when he was accosted by the youths near an isolated area. The youths reportedly forced him off his scooter and roughed him up. They fled the spot after taking away the scooter and money. The local police is conducting further investigations.Youth shot atA 24-year-old youth was allegedly shot at by three unidentified persons in Gokulpuri on Tuesday afternoon. He has been admitted to the GTB hospital where he is recuperating. The police said the victim, Mohammed Iqbal, was taking a walk in the area along with his friends when he was shot at. The assailants had covered their faces with scarfs. The police suspect that Iqbal, who was involved in a case of attempt to murder in 1992, is a victim of old enmity.Two robbed of Rs 70,000Two persons were robbed of Rs 70,000 around 12 p.m. on Tuesday near the Hilton hotel in the New Delhi area. The persons were coming over the flyover in front of the hotel when they were stopped at the bottom of the flyover by a gang of three youths who relieved them of the bag with the money at gunpoint. The youths then escaped with the money.
