The Kolkata Police has filed a chargesheet against five doctors of SSKM hospital for ‘‘criminal medical negligence’’ that led to the death of 17-year-old cricketer Rajneesh Patel.

Patel, who was admitted to the hospital on February 6 with a shin bone injury in a cricket match in Kolkata, died on June 2 after five operations.

The doctors who were chargesheeted yesterday include head of the orthopaedics department Dilip Majumder under whose supervision Patel was kept. Of the five operations, three were conducted by PGTs which is against rules.

‘‘During the fourth operation which was crucial and required the presence and supervision of Majumder, he was attending to a private nursing home in Kolkata,’’ the chargesheet read.

Majumder has already got anticipatory bail. The three PGTs were produced in court yesterday and granted bail.

One doctor is yet to be arrested. The government had conducted an inquiry following which Majumder was suspended.
