CHANDIGARH, JULY 19: Jagdish Kumar is just a Plus Two student, but that is where the usage of `just' should end. For he is blessed with an unusual artistic capability of creating magic, not on the canvas, but on a grain of rice. And that is what he has been doing for the past four years. The end product is for all to see, with the help of a magnifying lens, on the walls of the IndusInd Art Gallery.Seeing his works of art is indeed an experience of a different kind. Kept in beautiful enclosures and neat sections, the depictions on the grains are as varied as Kathakali, Charlie Chaplin, flute-playing Krishna and Guru Gobind Singh. There is a section which contains a shloka from the Gayatri Mantra and the English alphabet, written even eight times. So how does he do it? "I have modified the normal brush," says Jagdish as he shows the pointed brush. "I generally paint on the grain in sunlight," he adds. One must give credit to the gallery for arranging the entire collection and to city artist Prem Singh, who had spotted this talented youngster amidst a cluster in Dhanas. The exhibition, which will be on till July 25, is a must see for all.
