A court cancelled the sale of land to four persons, including Suitable Boy Vikram Seth’s sister Aradhana, author Arundhati Roy’s husband Pradip Krishan and IFS officer Nishikant Jadhav, at Bariam village near Pachmarhi. Now, the land where houses have been built, revert back to the original owner.

Hoshangabad Collector Ashish Upadhayay said the decision was taken under the Vanyaprani Adhiniyam 1972, which says no transaction is allowed in a notified forest. He said the notification for Pachmarhi was issued in 1973 while the deal took place in 1994. ‘‘Jadhav was park director when the transaction took place,’’ he said, adding the action follows a petition filed before Jabalpur HC in October 2002, which mentions Krishan as one of the respondents. ‘‘There are 150 such properties. We started with these because Krishan’s name is mentioned in the writ. He was the one who bought the land and sold it to the other three,’’ Upadhayay said.
