With inflation spiralling northwards, even cremation in Mohali will become costlier.
At its General House meeting, chaired by its president Rajinder Singh Rana, Mohali Municipal Council (MC) hiked the charges of wood procured to cremate bodies at the local cremation ground from the existing Rs 320 to Rs 600.
Taking up the agenda item moved by the MC engineering wing, the MC House, however, turned down the proposal to increase the charges to Rs 1,200 at par with Chandigarh. The civic body, however, resolved to charge Rs 600 for the wood supplied for cremation of a single body, MC Executive Officer (EO) Amana Kumar Goel told Newsline.
The MC House also approved the estimates amounting to almost Rs 5.65 crore pertaining to development works, including construction and repair of roads, streets, pavements, water supply and sanitation works in different parts of the city.
On the plea of the striking MC employees, a table item was moved and approved to recommend the cancellation of FIR against the stray animal catching employees of the MC, who were charged with causing death of a stray bull in Phase VIII on September 17.
