A Delhi court today refused to grant controversial godman Chandraswami permission to travel abroad on the basis of evidence provided by CBI of his alleged involvement in the conspiracy to assassinate former PM Rajiv Gandhi.

Overriding the contention of the defence that the same court had permitted a similar request by Chandraswami six years ago, Additional CMM Ravinder Dudeja upheld CBI’s plea opposing the request and claiming that they had ‘‘new incriminating evidence’’ to link him with the murder.

Dudeja, hearing the eight FERA cases against Chandraswami, dismissed his application for permission to go abroad after going through the documentary evidence presented by CBI’s Multi-Disciplinary Monitoring Agency investigating Rajiv’s assassination.

He also dismissed the defence argument questioning the locus standi of the CBI in a foreign exchange violation case between Nemi Chand Jain (Chandraswami) and the Enforcement Directorate.
