MUMBAI, November 21: The Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate Court today ordered that the six lions of the Great Golden Circus detained at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivli, be handed over to their owners.The magistrate ordered the circus owners to prepare cages of the dimension of 10 ft X 10 ft X 6 ft for each animal, and house them within 45 days from the date of the order. An undertaking to this effect has been issued to the circus owner Asma Anwar Khan by the court this evening.The order further added that the senior inspector of Jogeshwari Police Station will verify the implementation of the undertaking within a stipulated time and report the compliance.Also, a government veterinary officer of the Jogeshwari area will check the animals periodically until further orders and forward the certificates regarding their status of health.The circus director Mohan Shahani said, the court has not imposed any fine or any other restriction on the upkeep of the six lions. The court had earlier ordered that the lions belonging to the circus be kept at Borivli National park as they were found to be in ill-health. Two of the six lions were blind, while the others were reportedly suffering from other diseases.
