NEW DELHI, Dec 5: A Delhi court today allowed a policeman lodged in Tihar Jail, in connection with the Connaught place shoot-out case, to appear in Delhi University’s (DU) Llb examination.

Additional District and Sessions Judge B B Chaudhary granted permission to Ashok Rana, a crime branch inspector, while issuing notice to CBI to file a reply by December 8 on a similar plea of Assistant Commissioner of Police S S Rathi, seeking permission to appear in the Llb examination.

Rathi, Rana and eight others are facing trial for allegedly gunning down two innocent businessmen at the busy Connaught place area here on March 31, 1996, mistaking them for Uttar Pradesh gangster Yaseen Ahmed and his accomplice. The court, however, rejected Rana’s plea for interim bail during the examination period and asked the jail authorities to take him to DU on the examination dates.
