MORINDA, Oct 29: A couple eluding their families for more than a month, ended their life after they were arrested here on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh has instructed SP Jagdish Singh Kahlon to verify the possibility of the two having died in police custody. However, inquiries made at the hospital revealed that there were no injuries on the bodies of the deceased and the report from Roopnagar Civil Hospital, where the post-mortem was conducted, said the reason for their death was the consumption of some pesticide.

Sarabjit’s family had objected to her relationship with Jaswinder because he was married and had a family at Pathreri village. When she eloped with him, her father had registered a case of abduction with the Morinda police stating that his daughter was a minor. The police had managed to arrest the two on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Jaswinder’s father, Mehar Singh, has been absconding ever since his son eloped with the girl, police sources said.
