It couldn't get worse for the victims of the Rajdhani Express tragedy. If some of them got injured or lost their dear ones, many others lost their belongings. And that too at the hands of Railway Protection Force jawans. Yesterday, one jawan was suspended after being caught sneaking away with the purse of a deceased.Eastern Railway General Manager Sunil Sengupta confirmed that RPF jawans were stealing passengers’ possessions. ‘‘I have never seen jawans being so insensitive and greedy. They are stealing money and ornaments from the dead and the injured. I have ordered that they should not be allowed near the damaged compartments. It’s my responsibility to protect the belongings of my passengers,’’ he said. The passengers complained of the indifference of the RPF personnel. ‘‘Initially, the rescue operations were started by the local people who were doing it in earnest,’’ said Tapas Ghosh who had a miraculous escape. ‘‘Later, the RPF people started creating problems by not allowing the locals anywhere near. Had they done so, the injured would have got relief much earlier,’’ he said. The site looked like a mela today . ‘‘We don’t have any entertainment,’’ Rinu Devi of Gola village said, adding ‘‘when my daughters told me that they wanted to see the site I came along.’’
