SAS NAGAR, OCT 11: The crowd was nothing to boast of the first day of the India-New Zealand; on the second day spectators were even fewer. The stadium was virtually empty when the game began today . less than a thousand were on hand.Only the student block appeared reasonably well filled. The colleges were well represented and so were the schools with plenty of Yadavindra Public School and Chandigarh government schools' uniforms in evidence . (Bunkers!) In the pavillion and VIP blocks especially, only cops and ticket checkers were to been.Nevertheless, the fans were a vocal lot, clapping wildly when India crossed the 83-run mark (In the words of spectator Aman Puniaya, "Every day is not a Sunday") and cheering Jeet gaya! India jeet gaya!" when India made 100 for no loss. The PCA scoreboard contributed its own variety of applause, flashing "Bale oh tere" and "Ehe chauka khara khara".Cops had an easy time and lolled about lawns behind the stadium. One was heard to remark: "Astra di duty sab to achhi hai."Around noon PCA summoned its contractor to take back chairs from the VIP blocks. As a source explained: "We are paying about Rs 5 per chair per day. They might as well go back as there's no one to sit on them."If the PCA was determined not to lose money on chairs, its parking contractor was equally determined to make money. Cyclists were charged Rs 5, two-wheelers drivers paid Rs 10 and car drivers had to pay Rs 15 for parking.
