The Allahabad High Court has stopped fresh recruitment of police personnel on posts vacated after the dismissal of nearly 10,500 recruits by the Mayawati Government, until further orders. Judge Rakesh Tiwari set the next date of hearing on October 10.
The court observed that the state Government can make appointments on others posts which are falling vacant after retirement of police personnel or other reasons, but no recruitment should be made in place of the policemen dismissed on charges of irregularity and corruption in their appointments made by former CM Mulayam Singh Yadav .
The order came on petitions filed by the ousted police recruits on Monday. They had appealed in the court that their services be restored because Chief Minister Mayawati has ousted them following rivalry between her and Mulayam. “We should not be made a shuttlecock in the ongoing rivalry between Mulayam and Mayawati,” they requested in their petition. They also sought interim relief against the state government’s decision but the court denied them the same.
Out of the total 55 selection boards formed by the then Mulayam Government for recruitment of policemen, officer Shailja Kant Mishra inquired the selection process of only 24 boards. Inquiry is awaited in 31 more boards and it can take several months. The Mayawati Government had ousted 6,504 police and PAC personnel a few days back and suspended 14 police officials who were found guilty of either taking bribe or getting influenced to appoint members of a particular caste.
The CM also ousted nearly 3,964 cops after she got report on irregularities in appointments made by ten selection boards . “More heads would roll in the issue as a number of irregularities have come to light, including nepotism and money changing hands, during large-scale recruitments by the Mulayam Government,” said Rakesh Dhar Tripathi, Minister for Higher education and the legislator from Allahabad.
