NEW DELHI, January 30: Flights at the airports around the country would be badly hit following the decision of the Air Traffic Controllers Guild, ATCOs to begin their agitation.

The agitation will cause a one hour delay in all flights departing from the airport from tonight. According to the spokesperson of the association the guild has decided to take direct action to press for their long-pending demand for hike in perks. The ATCO’s say they will stop the departure of aircrafts in four phases. However, landing of planes and flights crossing over the airport would not be disrupted, he stated.

According to the ATCO’s spokesperson, “From midnight no departures would be allowed between 12 a.m and 1 a.m.. This will be repeated again between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. and again from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.. Among other things, the ATC Guild is demanding the implementation of the recommendations made by the Lahoti Commission which went into the Charkhi-Dadri air crash in 1996.

The ‘go-slow’ for onehour each in the morning, afternoon, evening and night is expected to affect flight schedules, and may lead to cancellations as well, according to the airlines. Since no flights would be allowed to leave during the period, there would be subsequent delays, they added.
