A delhi Police constable was injured on duty after three motorcycle-borne youths shot at him in East Delhi. Police said the incident took place late on Saturday night in Khichripur when the injured constable tried to stop the accused during routine checking.Police officers said the victim, Sridhar Geete, was patrolling near Block 8 of Khichripur. He had left the police station at 10 pm in an auto-rickshaw and was stationed at a check-post. Close to midnight, he noticed three youths coming on a motorcycle and flagged them down for checking. “Instead of stopping, the three youths started to accelerate. Constable Geete jumped in front of them and forced them to apply brakes. When he started questioning the youths, an argument ensued and one of the accused pulled out a pistol and shot at him thrice. Two bullets hit his thigh and another grazed his abdomen, a senior police officer said.Geete then took out his service revolver and fired at the accused. One of them, identified as Manoj, was injured and fell off the motorcycle. The other two managed to flee. The constable then informed the Kalyanpuri Police Station about the incident on his wireless. Police arrived at the spot and took the two injured to Max Balaji Hospital, from where Manoj was referred to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. Police said the condition of both the victims was stable. Sources said Manoj belongs to Karawal Nagar area and is involved in several criminal cases. “We have registered a case under Sections 307(attempt to murder) and 186(obstructing a public servant in discharge of public functions) of the IPC and Arms Act against the three accused. We have taken Manoj’s statement, who gave us the identity of the other two accused. A hunt is on to nab them,” a police officer said. Police refused to divulge the identity of the other two accused, saying that it will hamper investigations.Constable Geete belongs to Mumbai and was posted in Kalyanpuri Police Station for the last one year.
