Congress has decided to counter Hindutva in its citadel of Gujarat with a re-enactment of the Dandi march.

The replication of Mahatma Gandhi’s epoch-making movement will commence on March 12, its 75th anniversary, from Sabarmati Ashram at Ahmedabad. The 26-day march will end its 385-km course at Dandi on April 6.

Party chief Sonia Gandhi is slated to participate in the inaugural leg of the march. The party chose to field Gandhi’s grandson Tushar Gandhi, chief trustee of the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation, to announce the march. Activities involving cultural troupes and theatre groups will also be featured. The focus of these groups would be on communal harmony and de-addiction.
