Accusing the Congress of trying to split the UDP, Assembly Speaker Bindo M Lanong has said he and other UDP legislators will not succumb to the Congress temptation. He asserted that the UDP was committed to its pact with the NCP and would ensure that the Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA) coalition Government completed its five-year term.
According to sources, some senior UDP legislators have been left out of the Cabinet and are reportedly unhappy over the exclusion. It is this unhappiness that the Congress wants to take advantage of.
Therefore, it is allegedly luring the UDP legislators with a proposal of forming a Congress-UDP coalition Government and has offered them all the plum ministerial posts, including that of the Chief Minister. However, Lanong has rejected the offer of the CM’s post.
Sensing that the disenchantment might lead to revolt, Chief Minister Donkupar Roy on Thursday had promised that the ministerial posts would be rotated and the present UDP and NCP ministers would have to step down and make way for those who had not found a berth.
