NEW DELHI, OCT 18: The Congress lashed out at Union Home Minister L.K. Advani for first equating the RSS with Mahatma Gandhi and then admitting that the RSS was exercising its influence on government policies.
Referring to the reported observations made by Advani, party spokesperson Anand Sharma said on Wednesday that the country had a right to know whether the NDA government’s policies were based on RSS doctrines. “We are insisting that the Prime Minister and the allies in the BJP-led Government should come clean on the issue,” he told reporters.
The Congress spokesman also questioned the deafening silence of the BJP’s allies on the issue, wondered whether the allies had forsaken their secular principles for the sake of power.
“The statement made by the Union Home Minister makes it imperative that the Prime Minister must reply to the nation whether he and his Government accepts the situation where the country has to be divided between those who accept Gandhi as the Father of the Nation and those who accept the moral authority of the RSS,” Sharma said.
He asserted that it was for the first time that Gandhi had been compared to RSS and therefore the BJP-led Government including the allies should tell the nation whether the RSS ideology would determine government policies in future.
Referring to the “provocative exhortations” made by RSS Chief K Sudarshan to Muslims and Christians at the Agra rally, Sharma said it was a confirmation that the Centre accepts the RSS chief’s views.
