THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Feb 9: Opposition leader and Congress Working Committee member A K Antony yesterday said that the possibility of Congress forming the Government at the Centre with the support of secular parties, including United Front, cannot be ruled out. He was taking part in `Janavidhi‘, organised by Kerala Union of Working Journalists, at Thycaud guest house here.

“No single party will get absolute majority after the elections. However, Congress will emerge as the single largest party”, Antony replied when asked whether Congress would form a Government with the support of UF.

“This time, the Congress will not support the UF combine. But we do not mind taking their support”, he said.

Antony defended the Congress banking on its star campaigner Sonia Gandhi, adding that even opinion polls had revealed that Congress chances had doubled after Sonia’s entry. The Nehru family is the perennial source of energy for Congress. Their absence in the helm of affairs was conspicuous in the last fewyears, he said.

The Congress leader was, however, hard-pressed when asked to explain why Sonia had apologised for Operation Bluestar, which was a decision taken by the then Government after a lot of thought. “She is trying to heal wounds”, he said. “You should understand that Sonia’s speeches are written. Her comments on Operation Bluestar are not as what you have interpreted”, Antony said.
