Congress leader, 2 migrants killed in ULFA attack

Four persons, including a block-level Congress leader and two Bihari migrants, were killed as the ULFA struck in Upper Assam in the past 24 hours. A powerful time-deviced explosive was also recovered from near the National Games stadium today.

Khagen Charingiya, vice-president of the Milangaon block Congress, was killed at Mahmora in Sivasagar police station while two Bihari migrants were reported killed at Panch-Mile under Sadiya police station in Tinsukia district.

Tinsukia deputy commissioner A K Absar Hazarika said a village headman reported to the Sadiya police station today that suspected ULFA rebels killed two Bihari migrants late last night.

At Mahmora in Sivasagar, all 32 members of the Milangaon Congress committee have resigned. At least five block-level Congress leaders have been killed by the ULFA in recent weeks.
