PANCHKULA, July 22: The district administration will start the removal of congress grass in the township from tomorrow. This was decided at a meeting called by Deputy Commissioner Saroj Siwatch today. The meeting was attended by 20 voluntary organisations and HUDA Administrator M. Kithan was also present. The operation will be carried out sector wise under the supervision of a HUDA Junior Engineer and an officer of the district administration. The welfare associations from different sectors will also assist the operations.Deputy Commissioner Saroj Siwatch will formally launch the operations on Saturday from the Industrial Area here and will also supervise all the sectors. In the first stage of the operations, the grass in vacant plots and on the roadsides will be removed, and this will be followed by other areas.President of the Citizens' Welfare Association S. K. Nayyar, while welcoming the decision, said that the public should extend full support to the operation. He added that HUDA should encourage the residents to beautify the spaces in front of their homes, instead of removing them as encroachments, because by beautifying these areas the growth of congress grass is prevented in the area.A resident of Sector 7, Sanjeev Sehgal, who is allergic to the congress grass said, "This decision will be appreciated only if the administration takes it seriously, removes the grass immediately and completes the task." He added that the problem had continued over the years wihtout any action having been taken in this regard and that he had suffered immensely on this account."
