The Congress has tentatively fixed Shimla as the venue for the brainstorming session to be held in July. Party president Sonia Gandhi had announced at the recent Chief Ministers’ Conclave in Srinagar that a meeting would be held before the Assembly elections for finalising the poll strategy.
At this session, the party would look at the five states going to polls and also assess the implementation of some of the directives the party had given to the state governments after the CMs’ conclave.
At the second such session since Pachmari, the party would also look at the issue of regional coalitions and also coalition at the Centre after the 2004 elections.
While the party has already said it is ready for coalitions, it is now for the state units to come out with the options for alliances in the states.
By July, the party would have got the feedback from various Pradesh Congress Committees on the feasibility of alliances.
Party sources say while the upcoming Assembly elections would be of importance, the main focus of this session would be on the Parliamentary elections.
In this context, the party would also be fine-tuning its strategies on various issues like reservation for poor among the upper castes. It is expected that poll planks for the general elections may be finalised during the session.
