The Congress was on the backfoot today following BJP criticism over UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi using a corporate house-owned jet to visit Russia.
Party spokesman Anand Sharma claimed that the Congress had paid Rs 12 lakh for the plane through a June 2 cheque. Terming it a non-issue, Sharma said, ‘‘BJP should be more responsible.’’
He pointed out that BJP leaders had used planes of all corporate houses and sought to know how former minister Jaswant Singh travelled to Israel recently.
‘‘BJP leaders are trying to deflect public attention from their own battles with the Modis and the Togadias,’’ Sharma said.
