BHOPAL, MAY 11: Ruling Congress MLA, Kalpana Parulekar on Thursday began a dharna at Roshanpura Square here to demand re-instatement of retrenched daily wage employees of Madhya Pradesh Government.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA reiterated her decision to commit self-immolation on May 18 if the sacked daily wage employees were not taken back in service by May 17.
Parulekar said she had met Chief Minister Digvijay Singh on Thursday morning for about 20 minutes. She said that Singh told her that there would be no change in the Government’s stand of not to re-instate the retrenched daily wagers.
The MLA, who has been served a notice by the Congress High Command for supporting the agitation against the retrenchment of daily wage workers in the State, claimed that she had the backing of senior party leader Kamalnath, MP, and added that she was also being supported by the Youth Congress and the NSUI.
Answering questions from mediapersons, Parulekar said there was no need for her to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who is visiting Indore on Friday.
"I am quite sure that even if I do not meet Sonia Gandhi, she would become aware of the plight of the daily wage employees," Parulekar said.
