Even as the first list of nominees of the ruling TDP for Lok Sabha and Assembly elections obtained their B forms from the party leadership today, the Congress high command is still wrestling with the selection of its own nominees for constituencies which go to polls in the first phase.

There is much disquiet on the BJP front, too, with angry protests in the party headquarters here over the party surrendering some existing seats to its ally, the TDP.

According to indications from Delhi, the Congress high command is unlikely to release its first list, which was expected yesterday, for another two days. Though the nominees were more or less shortlisted for half the constituencies, veiled threats held out by some senior leaders reportedly delayed getting the final seal of approval from Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Also, the Congress’ efforts on seat-sharing with the TRS do not appear to have cut much ice. Though leaders of both the parties made public pronouncements that everything has gone off smoothly, indications are that the exercise is far from over and there are still areas of dispute. PCC president D. Srinivas and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao are currently engaged in discussions over the identification of seats but the pulls and pressures from both the camps are coming in the way of a final settlement.
