Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Monday came in for fresh flak from the Congress high command which said he should refrain from any ‘‘uncalled for’’ comment or conduct in view of the Supreme Court going into the controversial law enacted by the state scrapping river water sharing accords.
‘‘It is obligatory on all of us to ensure proper conduct as the matter is sub-judice…And there should not be any comment or conduct which is uncalled for. All of us, including the chief ministers, should take care to assist the Court,’’ party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said. He stated this when asked to react on Singh’s recent statements, including one indirectly raising the bogey of terrorism saying the state’s history shows it had lost many lives after being forced into agreements.
The AICC had only a few days ago disapproved of the CM’s statements on the issue. Singhvi disagreed when a reporter said the CM’s actions and statements showed ‘‘helplessness’’ of the party high command. He said Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee would be visiting Punjab.
