The AICC today dismissed Mandya District Congress president and former MLA L.R. Shivarame Gowda for organising a ‘‘cabaret’’ at a party workers’ meeting in Devalapura.

At the meeting, which was organised by Gowda and attended by ministers H.M. Revanna and Shivanna, a ‘‘skimpily-clad’’ woman danced on the stage.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee chief Janardhan Poojary said the programme was in ‘‘bad taste and against the principles and culture of the party’’.

Earlier in the day, Women and Child Welfare Minister Motamma said she had requested Congress leaders to issue a warning to Gowda. ‘‘It is wrong on the part of Shivarame Gowda to have organised such a show,’’ Motamma said, adding that a warning was enough. The Opposition BJP, in the meantime, has called for the removal of the ministers present at the function.
