At Janabai Chawl in Rasta Peth where Shailesh Suryawanshi has been confined to his home since his marriage to Julie D’silva on Monday, life appears normal. Unlike at Kumar Park, the middle class housing society where Julie and her relatives stayed, there has been no exodus of people.

However, Suryawanshi is worried that government health officials are not giving proper answers regarding his quarantine. He says the doctors have not bothered to collect blood samples of his family members who have been in quarantine since Tuesday. ‘‘Doctors should take blood samples to verify their doubts rather than keep us confined. After all, there is no problem with my health,’’ he said. He fails to understand why his family should be quarantined for the next 10 days.

Suryawanshi, a tehsildar at Guhaghar in Ratnagiri district, said he would like the doctors to issue him a medical certificate that declares him fit as soon as possible. ‘‘At least, it will give me a clean chit when I join office,’’ he said.

He acknowledges that the confinement is getting on his nerves and that he has no contact with anyone outside.

Meanwhile, a team from the National Institute of Virology (NIV) has taken blood samples of seven members quarantined at the residence of Simon Peter Alhat, Stanley D’silva’s uncle. Samples of Stanley’s maternal uncle Joseph Pawar, his wife Dolly Pawar, their children Jacob and Joshua, Stanley’s aunt Pramila Rathod, her son Inoch Rathod and Alhat’s elder daughter Preeti were taken. However, the NIV team did not take blood samples of Simon Alhat, his wife and his other two children.

Sources said the NIV team wanted to check the blood samples of the family members who travelled with Stanley to Pune from Ambarnath.

Pawar says Pune Municipal Corporation attendants were helping them source daily provisions. He says TV provides relief from the confinement. Joseph says Stanley, Julie and their mother Vimal sounded fine when he spoke to them on the telephone yesterday.
