JALANDHAR, May 29: Punjab Director General of Police, P.C. Dogra today said that all police stations in the district would be linked to district and state headquarters through computer networking by the year end to streamline the police functioning.
In an informal chat with newspersons here, Dogra said the computerisation of police stations had begun from Ludhiana, and in the next three months, the police stations of other three major towns of Amritsar, Jalandhar and Patiala would also be computerised.
The DGP said the proposal had been discussed with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and he had sanctioned Rs 1.32 crore for the project. This, he said, would facilitate the police functioning by placing the records of crime, criminals and police employees in the computers. The district headquarters would be linked with the state headquarters at Chandigarh through a modum and scanners.
The DGP said the state police would also shortly introduce integrated forms for lodging the First Information Reports (FIRS) which would be computer-compatible.
Dogra said the state police had been put on greater vigil due to the forthcoming "Ghallughara week" as the police had received reports of possible mischief from across the border.
He said the police was also keeping a close tab on the terrorist activities and said that Pakistan-based terrorist groups were badly disorganised and consisted of only 3 to 4 gang members each. However, he said these groups with the aid of the Pakistan intelligence agencies, were trying to lure the Indian youth settled in European countries into their nefarious designs.
Dogra also claimed that the state police was reviewing the security cover provided to private individuals in the state and withdrawal of security cover to more than 5,000 such individuals has taken place since his taking over as the DGP. Dogra said there were more than 9,000 private individuals with security cover earlier, and their number had been reduced now to just about 4,000.
