Luxurious recliners. Cheese platters. A tailcoated butler. A scene at your executive airport lounge? No, these are coming to a theatre near you.

Mumbai’s Shringar Shroffs are planning to expand their exhibition business with four new multiplexes, each costing about Rs 10 crore. And the one at Malad’s Mindspace mall will feature India’s first ‘‘gold-class theatre’’ with some exceptional trimmings.

‘‘We have about 50,000 sq ft of the Raheja Mindspace mall at Malad. It will have seven screens, one of which will be the Gold Class,’’ says Shringar director Shravan Shroff. ‘‘It’ll be like your first-class plane experience, hence the name.’’

Scheduled opening for Malad Fame? Sometime in September-October.

Apart from imported Spanish recliners — they cost Rs 40,000 apiece — the theatre offers unlimited dining within its ticket price. ‘‘Instead of samosas and popcorn, there will be platters with smoked and blue cheese. We will also have mocktails and good finger food like hummus and pita bread,’’ says Shroff.

Every four chairs will have a Jeeves and ‘‘you can also buy out the whole show for your wedding anniversary,’’ he adds. They still have to get a company consensus over the price but he places it within the bracket of Rs 300-500 per ticket. The concept hinges on Shroff’s confidence that a niche market will be willing to pay for this theatre luxury.
