JAIPUR, MARCH 22: Landing in his special aircraft at the airport amid a light shower, US President Bill Clinton arrived in Jaipur nearly two hours before the scheduled time and half an hour earlier than the revised timing of 7.45pm to day.

His entourage arrived in a separate aircraft and was taken to differenthotels booked for them in the city in vehicles waiting for them. Clad in dark shirt and trousers, Clinton alighted from the aircraft followed by his mother-in-law, Dorothy Rodham, and daughter Chelsea. They were greeted with bouquets by Rajasthan Governor Anshuman Singh, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and some Cabinet Ministers.

They proceeded to the helicopter waiting on the tarmac to fly them toRajvilas Hotel. Two other choppers followed the one with the US President which took off from the airport around 8 pm. Four helipads have been prepared at the hotel for the helicopter fleet accompanying the US President. According to earlier plans, Clinton was to come from Agra in a helicopter and land directly at Rajvilas Hotel, where the special royal suite has been booked for his stay. But inclement weather forced a change in the programme of "the world’s most powerful man".

By evening, the sky became overcast. Strong winds accompanied by sporadicshowers followed and it became apparent that there could be a change in theprogramme. The state government authorities, in a flap themselves, hurriedly modified their arrangements.

No arrangements had been made to take the US President to his hotel byroad, but helicopters which had arrived days in advance had been practisinglanding at the helipads in Rajvilas and came in useful.

The arrangements at the hotel had been taken over by the White Housesecurity staff. Electric fencing was put on the boundary walls to preventanyone from jumping over. Cameras were fitted to keep an eye on everyonecoming and leaving the hotel at any hour. A communication room was set upin the hotel with facilities for worldwide contact. Almost everything, including the cook and foodstuffs, were reportedly flown in from US.

Clinton is scheduled to visit Nayla village tomorrow morning and then goto Amber Fort, before flying to Ranthambhor where the Forest Departmenthas been trying hard to arrange a date with tigers for him.
