Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee on Sunday visited NSG commando Surjan Singh Bhandari who was injured in the Akshardham temple attack last year. Bhandari, who was admitted at AIIMS on Saturday, has been given a bed in the special ward at the New Emergency Ward of the hospital. Vajpayee spoke to his family members .
Earlier, terming reports about AIIMS refusing to admit Bhandari as ‘‘unfounded’’, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sushma Swaraj said the commando , who is still in coma, has been given a special room with all facilities. She said when the NSG Director General came with the request, he was told that a special room would be provided in 15 days and he was satisfied.
Bhandari is under constant observation by doctors from the Neurology and Emergency Departments, hospital sources said. He is on life support system and further investigations into his condition are on, they said.
