AMRITSAR, Feb 12: On a call given by the All India Sikh Students Federation against the `suspension' of Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh, students in various colleges in Amritsar and Gurdaspur districts observed strike and held rallies. Harminder Singh Gill, president of the AISSF, in a release claimed that reports of strike were received from all parts of the state. He alleged many AISSF leaders including three general secretaries Parshotam Singh Fagguwal, Barinder Singh Malout and Gurmanjinder Singh Dhillon were put under house arrest.Bathinda: Former SGPC President Baldev Singh Sivia has strongly critcised the unceremonious suspension of the Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh by the SGPC executive.In a release, Siva alleged that it was very unfortunate that the CM who got power with the blessing of the Akal Takht was now confronting its authority.the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs.He warned that though Badal had temporarily got an upper hand due to the number game but ultimately he would have to repent for his action.Meanwhile, as many as five SGPC members of Bathinda district have hailed the decision of the SGPC executive of placing Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh under suspension for his alleged unnecessary interference in the politcal affairs of the Akalis.They also appealed to Bhai Ranjit Singh to gracefully accept the decision of the executive committee. The members who hailed the decision included Mukhtiar Singh, Kehar Singh, Balwant Singh, Harcharan Singh Gill and Bibi Darshan Kaur Toofan.
