Colonel Anil Sehgal, facing a court martial in the Tehelka scam, today admitted the person shown in the tapes was himself.
Deposing as a defence witness, he also admitted that the Tehelka team of Mathew Samuel and Anil Malviya had ‘‘provided’’ him with liquor and women. He said his drinks had been spiked and he was totally intoxicated.
He admitted he had received Rs 20,000 each on two occasions (September 5 and September 21, 2000), but added that tape number 9 needed to be produced again to show he had thrown Rs 40,000 back at the Tehelka team. Arvind Moudgil objected to the defence’s demand for the procurement of the tape and 10 other tapes that had not been relied upon by the prosecution. The court directed Major Sanjay Sitanshu to produce the original tape and 10 others.
