Members of the Opposition continued to boycott the Defence Minister, George Fernandes, in the Lok Sabha on Thursday as they protested against his responding to a question on the purchase of coffins for soldiers who laid down their lives at Kargil.
Trouble broke out no sooner than a member of the House, Chandresh Patel, stood up to ask the Defence Minister a question on the coffin issue.
Within seconds, members of the Congress trooped to the well of the House and other Opposition leaders started shouting slogans against Fernandes.
The Defence Minister, however, remained unperturbed and carried on with his answers, paying no heed to all the commotion. During Zero Hour, he told the House that he was prepared for a detailed discussion on the coffin issue.
CPI(M)’s Basudeb Acharya enquired Deputy Speaker P.M. Sayeed about the fate of his breach of privilege notice against Fernandes. Sayeed said that the notice was under consideration.
