NAGPUR, MARCH 9: Co-operative credit societies should not hesitate to relax few norms for the benefit of the common people, Sulekha Kumbhare, Minister of State for Water Supply and Sanitation, urged here on Monday. She was speaking at the inaugural function of the 14th foundation day celebrations of New Subhedar Layout Urban Credit Co-operative Society. Vilas Muttemwar, MP, presided over the function. Kumbhare said that handling people's money is a job of great responsibility and entails gain of confidence of people. The society should thus try to seek more and more confidence of the people and help the needy and unemployed persons. She also lauded the progress of the society on the background that it did not have any political support. Muttemwar said that the co-operative credit societies are giving better services to common people as compared to the nationalised banks. He suggested that if they helped the people in construction of houses, that would be a real social service. Kamlakar Dharap, editor of daily Lokmat said that such societies can only progress through mutual co-operation of the officials and the consumers. Vijaykumar Fuke, divisional deputy regsitrar of co-operatives called upon the credit societies to strictly follow the rules regarding safety of the deposits, loan process and employees' management. The introductory remarks were made by Shriram Mandaskar, secretary of the society. Nana Shamkule, corporator also spoke. Bala Tirpude, chairman of the society welcomed the guests. Laxman Adolkar, Laxmikant Shrikhande, J D Andelkar, Arun Bhiwapurkar, Vasudev Ingle, S T Banarase, Wamanrao Kamble, Ramdas Guparkar, Nalini Ambekar, Vijaya Pise, Sampat Bhagat and others were present.
