Tiruchirappalli, Feb 28: Over 70,000 bank employees, owing allegiance to Tamil Nadu Primary Cooperative Banks All Employees Association (TACBEA), will go on an indefinite strike from March 6 to press their 11-point charter of demands, including implementation of revised pay scales.Announcing this to reporters here on Monday, TACBEA secretary C Kuppuswamy said though the revised pay scales had been `accepted' by the government in July, 1997, they were yet to be implemented.Besides, employees, working in about 4,650 primary co-operative banks and 17,200 fair price shops maintained by the banks in rural areas, were also demanding that their dearness allowance be on par with that of government employees. The dearness allowance as recommended in the fresh pay scales was nine per cent less than the original scales in which it was equal to that of government employees, he said.Other demands of the association include revision of pay every three years, house rent allowance on par with government employees, special increments to those achieving higher educational qualification and filling up of vacancies.Earlier, about 1,000 members of the association took out a procession and submitted a memorandum at the Joint Registrar of Cooperatives here.
