NAGPUR, MARCH 13: The Chief Justice of India A S Anand would declare open the two-day lawyers’ conference, being organised by Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa at Amravati, near here, on March 25.

Topics such as `Role of the Bar in Fostering the Rule of Law’, `Negligence of Executive and Legislature towards Judicial Wing’, `Need for Deterrent Punishment vis-a-vis Reformative’ and `Challenges before the Bar and the Bench in the 21st Century’ would come up for discussion at the conference, according to president of the Bar Council, Pradeep Mahalle.

Union Law Minister Ram Jethmalani would deliver the keynote address, while eminent lawyer and Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Arun Jaitley would deliver the valedictory speech.

Acting Chief Justice of Mumbai High Court N J Pandya would preside over the inaugural function to be graced by the Maharashtra Minister for Law and Judiciary Vilasrao Patil.

Among the legal luminaries who have confirmed their participation are the Solicitor General of India Harish Salve, president of Bar Council of India, S K Kaarvendhan, Additional Solicitor General Dhananjay Chandrachud and eminent lawyer Kapil Sibal.

An open session would be held on the concluding day of the conference, which is expected to draw at least 1000 lawyers from Maharashtra and Goa.
