Patna High Court Chief Justice R.S. Dhawan today expressed dissatisfaction over CM Rabri Devi’s calling him on Monday after a single bench of the court sentenced Bihar Chief Secretary K.A.H. Subramanian to jail. The official was granted bail by the same bench yesterday and the CM and RJD chief Laloo Prasad reportedly called CJ Dhawan on the matter.

While staying the proceedings against Subramanian, the division bench comprising Chief Justice Dhawan and Justice Shashank Kumar Singh said: ‘‘Calling up the Chief Justice will not solve the problem. This is not working inside the system; it could destroy the system.’’ The bench has stayed the order to take the chief secretary into custody and the case will come up on January 19, 2004.

Today, the chief secretary moved the appeal before the CJ’s bench.
