AHMEDABAD, July 25: An emergency meeting of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation officials was held on Sunday in a bid to prevent any outbreak of epidemic in the city following heavy rain. The meeting was chaired by Mayor Maliniben Atit.
In a release issued on Sunday, Atit said civic officials had been instructed to take measures to dispose of garbage immediately and solve problems of water-logging. They had also been asked to spray medicines in affected areas to control the mosquito menace.
She further said that all municipal hospitals had been asked to provide doctors for full 24 hours and provide reports of various laboratory tests as soon as possible. While chlorine tablets were being distributed, people would also be educated through various health awareness programme.
The Municipal Commissioner has ordered officials to ensure that appropriate levels of hygiene are maintained by various food stalls and restaurants.
About 20 to 25 cases of gastroenteritis are being reported daily from slum areas in the city. The affected areas are North and East zones, though civic officials say there is no epidemic-like situation. In North zone, Saraspur, Naroda, Kautilya near Nikol village are affected. Water pollution and consumption of unhygienic edibles has caused infection here. Similarly, in East zone, Amraiwadi and Odhav are some of the affected areas.
