Shivaji on canvas
Finally the public can now have a dekko at Prataprao Mullick’s art. His life-size canvases depicting the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji and put together in a permanent display as Shivsrushti had been sans audience at the Lal Mahal for almost a month now. Officially inaugurated on January 15 by Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde, the gallery had run into hassles since day one. The lack of security personnel had seen it shut its doors the day they had been opened. A couple of protests later, and additional municipal commissioner Deepak Kapoor decided that something had to be done. Consequently, Shivsrushti has emerged from the wings, and Puneites can now have a reconnaissance of the Chhatrapati’s life: his childhood days, his training into the art of fighting and handling of weaponry, his oath of Hindavi Swaraj along with his Maval friends, killing of Afzal Khan, and of course the grand spectacle of his coronation.
