
PUNE, April 22: Special Inspector General of Police (Traffic) M G Naravane has sought the support of citizens through donations for various amenities necessary to provide speedy and effective medical assistance to accident victims.
Inaugurating the new office building of the State Traffic Police at Khadki on the Pune-Mumbai highway on Tuesday, Naravane elaborated on various steps being taken by the department to ensure total safety on the highways with a thrust on providing immediate help to victims of mishaps and highway crime.
A total of 36 checkposts and 36 aid centres, Naravane said, had been activated along various highways in the State besides shifting six other checkposts to convenient locations close to the highways.
Lamenting that the traffic police still lacked the power to prosecute errant drivers, Naravane underlined the need to reinforce available infrastructure besides providing adequate manpower. He urged society to come forward and support the endeavour being made by the Force in the interest of the public at large.
DIG (Kolhapur Range) Raj Khilnani, on the occasion, extended all the support and assistance to the traffic police on behalf of the rural wing of the force to ensure instant help and relief to the accident victims.
Khadki cantonment Board’s vice president Suresh Kamble, Deputy Superintendent of Police A S Shaikh and Inspector Surendra Deshpande also spoke.
