It’s time now for the National Security Guard’s elite Black Cats to return to their barracks and hone their counter-insurgency operation skills.
Replacing them will be the CISF’s up-coming Special Security Group (SSG), which has been tasked to provide a security shield to politicians and VVIPs following a recommendation from the Group of Ministers (GoMs) which feels that ‘‘VIP security should ideally be with the CISF which is professionally trained for it’’.
The CISF is raising three SSG battalions. Commandos of this new VIP security force will be armed with Glock pistols and MP-5 assault rifles, even as the CISF contemplates giving them a new uniform, something on the lines of the Black Cats’ dungarees or allowing them to wear the jungle outfit donned by their Special Task Force commandos.
Confirming this new move of the Government, CISF press information officer Neeraj Singh said: ‘‘There is a clear thinking among the policy makers in the Home Ministry to move forces back to their areas of specialisation and that is why CISF has being given this challenging job.’’
